Breaking Free from Constant Demands Leadership often brings unexpected challenges, but one of the hardest parts of my role as Head Manager of Kindergarten and Grade One was the constant stream of questions from teachers. Every day, I was bombarded with nervous inquiries: What should I do? Is this the right step? Can I make this decision on my own?
Feeling Overwhelmed
While I genuinely wanted to support my team, the constant dependence on me became overwhelming. I found myself wondering, why do they feel unable to act independently? Why do they need my approval for every move?

Or was it simply a reflection of the dynamics within the workplace? These questions fuelled my curiosity about what drives people to act (or not act) the way they do.
A Journey of Understanding
Through these frustrations, I began a process of self-reflection. Why did their nervous energy affect me so deeply? Was I too focused on solving their problems instead of empowering them to solve their own?
These experiences led me to realize that understanding others starts with understanding yourself. By stepping back, I recognized that I had a tendency to take on too much responsibility. This awareness didn’t come from coaching others—it came from facing my own struggles and exploring what it truly meant to lead effectively.
The Turning Point
As I began to implement small changes, like encouraging teachers to trust their instincts and take ownership of their decisions, I noticed a shift—not just in them, but in myself. I no longer felt the constant weight of being everyone’s safety net. Instead, I felt empowered by creating an environment where people could grow.
